If you are awarded a scholarship you must meet the following criteria to retain your scholarship:
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 6 college credit hours in both fall and winter semesters.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of two classroom theater courses during the school year.
  • Maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA overall in your course(s) at MCC.
  • Perform in or work crew for a minimum of 1 Center for Theater production in both fall and winter semesters.
  • Participate in recruiting events held by the Center for Theater.
  • Complete a yearly review of your participation in the theater department with the Director of the Center for Theater.

Achievement Based Scholarship - Visual Art (Fall Semester)

Requirements:
  • Students who demonstrate a particular creative talent or a high level of achievement in the visual arts.
  • This scholarship is not need based.

  • Attend courses in Visual Arts each semester awarded.
  • You must schedule a portfolio review with a MCC Visual Art faculty member.
  • Your portfolio should consist of actual works and be your best examples. A combination of actual work with digital photos on a CD is also acceptable. Up to 20 actual works may be included. Particular emphasis is placed on basic drawing skills so you should bring as many drawings as possible based on direct observation reflecting strong technique and effective composition. 
  • During the portfolio review you are expected to be able to verbally explain the assigned requirements or intended goals of each artwork based on the language of art as learned in your classes.
  • The MCC Art Faculty will jointly jury the submitted portfolio after the initial review with you. You must be able to leave your portfolio with the art faculty until the approximate date of April 1 while scholarship recipients are selected and available funds are determined. All portfolios must be picked up after notification of scholarship recipients occurs in April. Any materials left unclaimed after the month of April will be disposed of.

Amount Up to $500 ($250 per semester)

Available for books, required equipment/supplies, and other MCC-generated fees except for tuition.

Brenda Gardner/ADAC Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000 (Up to $500 per semester)

In memory of Brenda Gardner, fondly remembered employee of ADAC Automotive.

Requirements:
  • Muskegon County resident who has an interest in working in human resources.
  • Enrolled in any business program at Muskegon Community College (degree or certificate) that could lead to employment in human resources.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.
  • Must complete FAFSA to demonstrate financial need.
  • 500 word essay that explains the reason for pursuing a career in human resources and related goals for working in this field.

Christopher & Joella VanOosterhout Scholarship

Amount: Up to $250 (Up to $125 per semester)

This scholarship was established by MCC business instructor Christopher VanOosterhout, his wife Joella and their five sons in support of MCC students.

  • Enrolled at MCC for a minimum of 12 credits per semester awarded.
  • Either a graduate of Calvary Christian School of Fruitport or home schooled a minimum of two years of high school.

Community Foundation for Muskegon County Scholarships

If you’re a high school or homeschooled senior, current college student, early college senior, or adult student, the Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFMC) may have a scholarship for you. We manage one of the largest scholarship programs in our area, with $1.2 million committed to students in over 800 new and renewed scholarships awarded each year.
 
  • For graduating seniors or current college students, our scholarship application period opens October 1, 2021 and closes February 1, 2022. Scholarships are awarded once per year.

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified about their awards in April and will be recognized at their high school awards ceremony.

Dale and Connie Nesbary Music Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide two scholarships annually to reward excellence in musicianship and to encourage study of music at MCC. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 annually, disbursing $500 per semester, to two students meeting the defined criteria.

  • Open to incoming freshmen only.
  • Applicants are recruited by the MCC Director of Music.

In memory of former Jayhawk student-athlete and assistant wrestling coach, Dan Burt.

Future Chemists Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of former MCC President, Dr. Frank Marczak and Marlene Marczak, to support the study of chemistry.

  • Enrolled full-time at MCC, with stated major of chemistry or chemical engineering.

GVSU Distinguished Community College Graduate Transfer Scholarship

DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY COLLEGE GRADUATE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP

Award amount: $1,000 (renewable for one additional consecutive year)

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited community college in Michigan and have earned an associate's degree
  • Must have a cumulative community college grade point average of 3.5 or higher

Haworth Skilled Trades Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Requirements:
  • Must be able to confirm you have or will obtain your high school diploma or equivalent on or before July 1st of the year in which the scholarship will be used.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or greater or Canadian equivalent of 70-72% or greater.

International Studies Scholarship

The International Studies Scholarship provides an opportunity to participate in MCC travel abroad programs. This faculty-supported fund was developed to help students gain a broader world view, build international perspective, develop self-confidence, and develop a career path that recognizes the importance of understanding different cultures.

Requirements:
  • Full-time status at MCC at the time of the application and award.
  • Ability to fund at least half of the cost of the study abroad experience.
  • Academic excellence, GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Mary Josephine Vukits Nursing Scholarship

Established by her nephew, Tom Dake, this scholarship honors the memory of Mary Josephine Vukits, R.N., who started her nursing career as a Registered Nurse in the U.S. Army during WWII and later worked as an RN at Hackley Hospital for over 30 years before retiring.

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credit hours at time of award.
  • Currently enrolled full-time at MCC or accepted for admission in the MCC Nursing Program; or enrolled in at least 8 NUR credits; or enrolled in a MCC Clinical Nursing (NUR) course.

MCC Faculty Association Justice, Humanity, and Equality Scholarship

Amount: Up to $2,000 annually ($1,000 per semester).

This scholarship was established by the members of the MCC Faculty Association in the aftermath of the protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd and others in 2020 to honor those whose lives have been cut short in racist atrocities, and those who have worked untiringly to overcome direct and indirect racist discrimination and violence throughout the history of the United States.  Its purpose is to help empower a student who is committed to fighting injustice to move us all towards a better world in which systemic racism is a thing of the past.

Requirements:
  • Applicants may be either incoming freshmen with a high school GPA of at least 2.5 or returning MCC students with an MCC GPA of at least 2.0. 
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated record of anti-racist activism. 
  • Applicants must submit a personal essay outlining their dedication to promoting racial justice. (The essay may be either a written paper or may take the form of a video or other presentation.) 
  • Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation. 
  • The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years up to 62 credits with satisfactory academic progress and a report on continued involvement in activism.   
  • Preference will be given to minority applicants. 



MCC Faculty Association Memorial Scholarship

Amount: Up to $600.

Requirements:
  • Awarded to student leaving MCC after two years of study; a completed degree (ASA, AAS, etc.) is not required.

  • Priority given to students from rural area, honorably discharged veterans, or pursuing a nursing degree.

Amount:  Up to $5,000 ($2,500 Fall, $2,500 Winter)

The Sparks Belting Scholarship was established for students pursuing a degree or certificate in Applied Technology.

Requirements:
  • Students must be pursuing a certificate or degree in the Applied Technology field.
  • A cumulative G.P.A of 2.5 or better (high school or MCC)
  • Students can be in-district or out-of-district
  • Must complete the MCC General Scholarship Application
  • Student must be enrolled a minimum of 12 credits per semester awarded.



Spencer Norman Scholarship

Amount Up to $250

Spencer Norman, community activist, mentor, brother, father-figure, teacher, and friend to all in the Muskegon Heights Community. Spencer (1947-2012) was a founder of the Coalition for Community Development and an active member of the Friends of Muskegon Heights Branch Library.

Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled at Muskegon Community College.
  • A 2.0 GPA or better.
  • A resident of Muskegon Heights.
  • Essay discussing their aspirations and a description of how they have helped or plan to help others.



Sun Chemical Scholarship

Amount: Up to $500 ($250 per semester).

In memory of our good friend and co-worker A.D. Barnes.

Requirements:
  • A graduate of Muskegon High School.
  • Must complete FAFSA to demonstrate financial need.
  • The second semester disbursement is contingent upon the student achieving “satisfactory status” according to the College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
  • General Essay.



Tina Dee & Scott Lampe Scholarship

Amount: $500 ($250 per semester)

Tina Dee is MCC’s Director of Strategic Initiatives. She dedicated over 20 years of her career to the field of marketing and communications, including 15 years as an adjunct professor at GVSU, teaching PR, advertising, and other communication classes. She resides in Grand Haven with her husband, Scott Lampe, an award-winning packaging designer.

Requirements:

  • Reside in the Grand Haven Area Public School district
  • Attending MCC on at least a half-time basis at time of award
  • Working towards an associate degree, with plans to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public service, packaging design, or other related field
  • Single parents and graduates/pending graduates of Grand Haven Central High School are strongly encouraged to apply

Unity Breakfast Book Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000 (Up to $500 per semester).

The Unity Breakfast has presented speakers in the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for 20 years. Proceeds from the event benefit this scholarship fund.

Requirements:
  • Muskegon County resident.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Full-time student pursuing an associate’s degree.
  • Preference given to minority students.
  • General Essay.



Wayne and Linda Barrett Scholarship

Amount: Up to $500 (up to $250 per semester).

Funded by alum Wayne Barrett and his wife, Linda. Wayne is a former Foundation for MCC Board member and past Vice-President of the Foundation for MCC Board of Directors.

Requirements:
  • Open to any student with an interest in earning an Associate’s Degree.
  • Must complete FAFSA to demonstrate financial need.
  • General Essay.



West Michigan Veterans Coalition Armed Forces 2021 Dependent Scholarship

The West Michigan Veterans Coalition Armed Forces Dependent Scholarship is available to Spouses and Dependent Children up to age 26 of Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, Retired and honorable discharged members of the United States Military who are currently attending or have been accepted into either a College, University or Trade School. The scholarship may be used to support school expenses such as books, tuition, transportation, housing, etc…

Requirements:

 

  • Dependents must be a resident of or attending a school in one of the following counties: Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Lake, Kent, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, or Ottawa County.
  • Service Member must be currently serving, retired, or honorably discharged member of the United States Military including those that have served in the National Guard or Reserves.
  • Completed Application

  • Copy of Marriage License or Dependents Birth Certificate
  • Documentation of Military Service for Service Member (DD214, NGB 22, Letter of Discharge, or current orders)
  • Official copy of his/her most current transcript with cumulative grade point average or credit hours toward certification of skilled trade
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (excluding family members), must be signed and dated (within the application period) by the writers
  • Provide a 750-1500-word essay telling the scholarship committee about yourself, where do you see yourself in 5 years, and how this scholarship will help you attain that goal.
  • Must be a spouse or dependent child of the service member and either currently attending or have been accepted to a college, university or trade school. Dependents may be a high school senior who has been accepted into a college, university, or trade school.
  • Currently enrolled students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale or be able to show hours toward certification of a skilled trade.

West Michigan Veterans Coalition Military Family Assistance Fund

The West Michigan Veterans Coalition Military Family Assistance Fund is a limited financial assistance program that was established to address the immediate quality of life needs of Military-connected Families during a time of temporary financial hardship.

Requirements:
  • Be able to supply proof that you live within Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Lake, Kent, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, or Ottawa county.
  • Be a current or former member of the Armed Forces or a spouse of a deceased or deployed service member.
  • Supply a copy of your DD-214, Retirement Letter, NGB-22, Letter of discharge, Letter from current unit commander if still serving, or current orders.
  • Provide proof of residence ( driver’s license, voter registration, state ID).
  • Bills or account statements regarding the items you are seeking assistance with.
  • Marriage and /or death certificate if you are a spouse who is applying.

Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce Scholarship (Available for all genders)

Amount $1,000
Deadline: March 11, 2022

Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a minimum CUMULATIVE 2.50 grade point average
  • Applicants must either:
    • reside in Muskegon County
    • attend a Muskegon County High School
    • be a graduate of a Muskegon County High School
    • or already be enrolled in Muskegon Community College or Baker College (Muskegon Campus)
  • Applicants must plan to attend Muskegon Community College or Baker College as a first or second year FULL time student. The scholarship money must be used consecutively in the 1st and 2nd semester/quarter. The scholarship must be used beginning in the fall of 2022.
  • Applicants must submit a completed and signed application form and an OFFICIAL school transcript along with an OFFICIAL transcript of any college credits postmarked by March 11.
